Over the Thanksgiving break, I went to London, on the top of my to-do list was to visit the Pop-Life exhibition that I had previously blogged about. The exhibition was really interesting, it showcased works of Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Keith Harring, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami and many more.
I was especially excited to see the Murakami's short film. It turned out to be quite entertaining with Kristen Dunst singing and dancing on the streets of Tokyo, totally immersed in the Japanese culture. The exhibition also showed that Murakami's works are inspired by the geeky otaku world, and the whole idea of linking between high and pop culture.
After spending some time at the exhibition, I have also discovered some similarities between Warhol's Factory and Murakami's workshop, Kaika Company. Both man who started out as artist has turned their name and their creations into a business empire. From making short films to collabrations with other artists or fashion labels.
